Weekends and popular dates can fill up sooner, while some services may be arranged on shorter notice when vessels are available. Your reservation is not confirmed until the required payment has been received and you have received confirmation from Los Angeles Yacht Charter.

Where are ashes scattered at sea?
For ash scattering at sea in California, the scattering takes place at least 500 yards from the shoreline. Your vessel will depart the harbor and travel offshore to an appropriate location for the service before the ashes are scattered.

Can I bring an urn aboard?
Yes. Families may bring the cremated remains aboard in an urn or another suitable container. If you plan to place an urn or container into the ocean as part of the ceremony, please let us know in advance so we can confirm what is appropriate for your service and vessel.

Are children included in the guest count?
Yes. Children and infants count toward the vessel’s total passenger capacity and must be included in your guest count. If your group includes infants or several young children, please let us know their ages when inquiring so we can confirm the vessel can accommodate your group and has the appropriate life jackets available.

Are food and drinks included on a burial at sea charter?
Food and beverage options vary by vessel and charter length. Some vessels allow you to bring your own food and drinks, while others offer catering, onboard bars or beverage packages. Certain vessels with licensed bars do not allow outside alcohol. Check the individual vessel details or ask us about the options available for your group.

What should I wear to a burial at sea or ash scattering?
There is no required dress code unless your family has chosen one for the memorial. Comfortable layers are recommended because it can be cooler and windier on the water than on land. What happens to the urn or identification coin after the ash scattering?
After the ashes have been scattered, any urn, container or identification coin left aboard will be discarded. If you would like to keep the urn, container or identification coin, please remove or retain it before leaving the vessel. Identification coins or tags may accompany cremated remains from a funeral home or crematory. Neither Los Angeles Yacht Charter nor the vessel operator or crew independently verifies that an identification number on a coin or tag corresponds to the cremated remains, urn or container provided for the service. Families are responsible for confirming this information with the funeral home or crematory before the service.

Who is responsible for the disposition during a burial at sea?
The legally authorized Person in Charge of remains retains full responsibility and authority over the disposition at all times. While vessel crew may assist with operational tasks such as positioning and lowering, they act solely in a support capacity and do not assume responsibility for the disposition itself. The Person in Charge of Disposition remains the final decision-maker throughout the process and is responsible for ensuring that all applicable federal, state, and maritime regulations are met.

Is crew included with the yacht charter price?
Yes. The prices shown on our website include the crew needed for your charter. For certain luxury yachts operating under a bareboat charter arrangement, the booking documentation may include a separate crew agreement. This does not increase the advertised charter price unless additional services or charges are specifically disclosed to you.

What is a bareboat charter?

 A bareboat charter is a vessel leased by the owner to another person (the “charterer”) without a captain or crew.

> It is considered a recreational vessel and may not be subject to Passenger Vessel inspections by the U.S. Coast Guard.

> Once the charterer takes possession, they are entirely responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel and its passengers.

> The owner of the vessel is generally not responsible for collisions, personal injuries, or crew wages.

> The charterer is responsible for the crew, fuel, insurance, maintenance, repairs, and any liability associated with the vessel.

> The charterer may select and pay crew and may discharge the master or any crew member without referral to the owner.

> The owner may require general proficiency standards for the crew based on federal statutes.

> Charterers and passengers are solely responsible for understanding and agreeing to the terms of any bareboat charter agreement.
