The first official documentation of the San Pedro harbor was by the Portuguese explorer Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo in 1542. From the moment the spanish settled the harbor it has been a major location to facilitate international trade.
The California congress declared the San Pedro Bay as the official port for Los Angeles in 1897 and it continues to be a major international seaport. That serves as a must see for maritime enthusiasts and seafood lovers.

Angels Gate Lighthouse
Guiding ships into the port since 1913 the Angels Gate Lighthouse has been uniquely designed on a 40 foot concrete pillar to help it withstand the roughest seas.
Cabrillo Beach Pier
Built in 1969, just Inside the north end of the Los Angeles harbor breakwater is the Cabrillo beach pier. The pier goes 1,200 into the harbor and is the only public pier in the area. It is a local favorite for fishing and educational purposes.
SS Lane Victory
A national treasure, this military cargo ship served in World War ll, the Korean War, and the Vietnam war. Thanks to the United States Merchant Marine Veterans of World War II the ship was restored to its former glory and is not only a nationally recognized historic landmark, but it is also a living museum and memorial to Merchant Marine sailors and Navy Armed Guardsmen.
Space X
A recent addition to San Pedro, the new Space X location is where they plan to research, design and manufacture spacecrafts with the goal of sending people to Mars. If guests are lucky they can see the rocket booster being supported by a crane.
The Vincent Thomas Bridge
Opened in 1963, the Vincent Thomas Bridge is a 1,500-foot-long suspension bridge linking San Pedro with Terminal Island. To this day it remains the only suspension bridge in the Greater Los Angeles area.
The bridge is also spectacular at night. From dusk to midnight illuminates the sky with its 160 solar powered led lights.
The Los Angeles Maritime Museum (Former municipal ferry terminal building)
See the beautiful former Municipal Ferry Terminal Building. Built in 1941, by the architect Derwood Lydell Irvin the building is a classic example of the Art Deco’s streamline moderne architecture.
Ralph J. Scott (fireboat)
Ms. Ralph Scott is a National Historic Landmark. This fireboat is 100-foot (30 m) long and can pump 17,000 US gallons per minute. She retired in 2003 after 78 years of service.
The Battleship USS Iowa
Built in 1943, SS Iowa (BB-61) was the lead ship of the last class of the U.S. Navy battleships to be built by the United States. The battleship served during World War II, the Korean War, and through the Cold War. Iowa earned 11 battle stars during her career and hosted three U.S. Presidents, ultimately earning the nicknames Battleship of Presidents and Big Stick. Today it is located at the former home to the US Navy Pacific fleet and is a point of pride for the San Pedro community, as well as a maritime museum.
Point Fermin Lighthouse
Thanks to dedication of local businessman Phineas Banning, the Point Fermin Lighthouse was the first navigation light in the San Pedro Bay. Built in 1874, the building is in the Victorian Stick Style.
Ports O’Call Village (San Pedro Public Market - Coming Soon)
A quaint seaside plaza with activities and eateries built in 1963. In 2017, the city sold the rights to a new developer who tore down the iconic village and is planning to have a new San Pedro Public Market , which will open in 2022.
Shop at Crafted
This craft marketplace is located in classic World War II-era waterside warehouses and has a plethora of one-of-a kind treasures made by local artisans.
Things to do Around San Pedro
Ride the LA waterfront Trolley
Take a ride on the free San Pedro Trolley. Hop on and off at popular convenient locations such as downtown San Pedro, the Maritime Museum, Battleship IOWA, San Pedro Fish Market, Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles, and Brouwerij West.
First Thursday Art Walk (1st Thursday of the month)
Starting at 5pm galleries and restaurants entertain the community. Open until 9 p.m. Most of the participants are located on 4th St. to 7th St., and from Pacific Ave. to Palos Verdes St.
The Los Angeles Maritime Museum
The largest maritime museum on the west coast, the Los Angeles Maritime museum opened in 1979 as an effort of the community to save the historic building after the Vincent Saint Thomas was built and the ferry deemed no longer needed.
The museum has exhibits on everything from the history of commercial diving in Los Angeles to chronicles the once thriving San Pedro fishing industry. The museum also operates the tugboat Angels Gate, built in 1944 for the Army Transportation Service.
The USS Iowa
As one of the most accessible Battleship museums, the USS Iowa has award-winning interactive experience for individuals, families, groups. It’s an excellent opportunity to have a better understanding of the hardships American women and men had to endure in the US Navy.
Cabrillo Beach
This local beach is unique in that it has two sides. One side of the beach is connected to the harbor and while the other has access to the that’s open to the surf.
Cabrillo Marine Aquarium
Displaying the largest collection of Southern California marine life in the world. This aquarium was designed by Frank Gehry and is the perfect place to enjoy the interactive exhibits, tidepool touch tanks and other unforgettable attractions.

Since the tear down of Ports o´Call Village 22nd St. Landing is the only restaurant in the San Pedro waterfront area that can handle groups. Operating for over 30 years the restaurant has two banquet areas that look over the water. It is a delicious option that is located right near the burial at sea pickup / drop off location.

Approximately two minutes from the burial at sea pickup dock Pappy’s is a delicious local seafood restaurant that has a special event space called the rendezvous room which can accommodate a private group up to 50. Pappy’s Rendezvous Room first opened in 1946 and served as a lounge, and speakeasy for the fine people of San Pedro ever since.
Today Pappy’s Rendezvous Room is a full-service lounge, private dining experience, and event space featuring a discreet entrance, private restrooms, and curated entertainment options. Original marble flooring and rich, navy wood-paneled walls create a classic, refined backdrop for private events, both big and small.

A San Pedro Stable since 1999, this brewing company has it all. Offering delicious americana dining, with fresh award winning ales and lager that are brewed on the premises. Also be sure to check out their calendar, which is chocked full of great live entertainment.
Brouwerij West
This tasting room and beer garden venue is inside a warehouse that was built for the Navy during World War ll. They have not only a plethora of beers, but also events, with regular food trucks set up to appease all taste types.
San Pedro Fish Market
Get your hands dirty and pick out some delicious seafood. San Pedro Fish Market has been named 5th Most Instagrammed restaurant in the US. Pick your fish fresh off the ice and pay per pound, but then have it cooked for free any way you like (BBQ, deep fired, sauteed, ext.) before you sit down. Don't worry about finding a place to sit because this 50,000 square foot waterfront venue has more than 3000 seats.
